The countdown to the biggest charity Raceday in the country has begun, where twelve riders will enjoy the “Ride Of Their Lives” as they participate in a nine furlong race around the famous Knavesmire, in support of Macmillan.
The charity race is the biggest single fundraising event in the Macmillan calendar, and 2020 will be its 50th anniversary.
All twelve riders are experienced in riding, but amateurs in racing. Each will pledge at least £3,000 to the Macmillan charity ahead of the race on Saturday 13th this year.
One of the riders participating in the popular race is 27 year old Ria Ginley, a full time show jumper from Tadcaster. Ria has ridden all her life and has competed in prestigious international events such as Horse Of The Year Show and Olympia, but has no experience when it comes to actual racing. Speaking to Macmillan she said:
“I’ve ridden all my life, ever since I was a tot. Show jumping wise, I know what I’m doing but when it comes to racing, I’ve not really a clue!”
Ria is pledging to raise £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care, all in memory of her best friend’s father Neil Stevenson, who lost his life to cancer last year. She explained on her just giving page how it was a “huge honour” to give back:
“I’ve been lucky enough to be chosen to not only ride at one of the best racecourses in our country, but also been given the opportunity to support this fantastic charity, which helps so many people. It’s a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started. Doing something I love doing and raising money for charity, means I’m already winning.”
