Children at Saxton CE Primary School are thrilled to have been awarded Green Flag status by Eco Schools. This is in recognition for all the hard work that they have undertaken to promote environmental awareness throughout the school.
Eco Schools run the Green Flag award as a 7-step process. Children have to undertake an environmental review of the school, produce an action plan in 3 key areas, deliver improvements, and promote an Eco Code throughout the school. At Saxton, this was led by the Eco Warriors committee who developed actions relating to energy, litter, and marine life. They ran an anti-littering poster campaign, tracked energy usage every week, and held a ‘Big Blue Day’ to promote awareness of the impact that single-use plastics have on our oceans.
Executive Headteacher, Mr Rick Weights, said, “I am incredibly proud of what our children have achieved. They are responsible environmental citizens and have shown that even in a small school we are able to make a big difference to the world around us.”
The Eco Warriors will continue to drive improvement in the school and intend promoting change in different areas of the school this year.
