PenLife Chartered Financial Planners welcomes new Protection Adviser

York based PenLife Associates has announced the appointment of Niall McSharry as a Protection and Insurance Specialist, further strengthening its services for individuals, families and business owners across Yorkshire.

Niall brings a broad and well rounded‑ background in insurance and financial protection, alongside a strong commitment to client focused advice. He began his career in 2016 at NFU Mutual as a Claims Handler working within the equine and pet claims team where he gained early exposure to the technical and emotional realities clients face when making a claim.

Following the Covid19 pandemic, Niall reassessed his career direction and moved into estate agency, joining Bridgend Estate Agents. It was here that he was introduced to the advisory side of financial services. When an opportunity arose within the firm’s mortgage team, Niall completed his Certificate in Mortgage Advice (Cert CII) and became a Mortgage and Protection Adviser, further broadening his client facing experience.

Niall later joined Fenton Simpson Financial Services, where he specialised in personal and business protection. It was during this period that Niall discovered a particular passion for protection planning, especially the underwriting and problem‑solving elements of complex cases.

“Protection is never a one‑size‑fits‑all solution,” said Niall. “Everyone’s circumstances are different. For me, it starts with a really good conversation – understanding what matters most to someone and what they want to protect. Whether that’s income protection, life cover, critical illness cover or business protection, it’s about prioritising what’s most important and structuring solutions that work realistically within someone’s budget.”

Niall’s approach focuses on flexibility, clear communication and tailored advice, ensuring clients understand their options and feel confident in the decisions they make.

Deborah Jacobs, Director at PenLife, commented:

“Niall brings with him a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge that will further enhance our protection proposition. His client‑centred approach and technical expertise align perfectly with PenLife’s values and reinforce our commitment to delivering high‑quality, personalised financial advice to clients across Yorkshire.”

Reflecting on his move to PenLife, Niall added:

“PenLife genuinely has a family feel. Directors, Deb, Tom and Nina, have such a clear vision for the business and the team, and that culture really filters through. The team cares deeply about their clients, and once you become a PenLife client, you’re not just a number; you’re part of something more personal. That really resonated with me.”

Niall’s appointment supports PenLife’s ongoing growth strategy and enhances the firm’s ability to provide comprehensive, expert protection advice to individuals, families and business owners throughout the region.
