Bags of Help is a new local community grant scheme where the money raised from plastic carrier bag sales is used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK.
Projects range from improving community buildings and outdoor spaces, to new equipment, training coaches and volunteers, and hosting community events.
Each time you shop at Tesco you will be offered a blue token at the checkout and be able to vote for the project you want the money to go to.
Here in Tadcaster you can vote for Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad, which will help provide exclusive opportunities for all young people to develop healthy lifestyles through the sport of competitive swimming.
You can also vote for York Childcare, who are offering a limited number of ‘assisted places’ to families in receipt of certain income related benefits or who are experiencing exceptional difficulties.
Another is Bishopthorpe Scout Group, who are wanting to replace their minibus. They use it to transport their scout group and other groups to scouting events and to assist with other community events.
Every three months Tesco hand out grants of up to £2,000, £1,000 and £500 in 575 regions across Britain.
These tokens will be in store until 31st March 2020.
