Families invited to discover Jigsaws’ £750,000 nursery transformation

Local families are being invited to step inside Jigsaws Childcare Nursery in Church Fenton on Saturday 26 September, as the not-for-profit organisation celebrates the completion of a major £750,000 redevelopment programme.

The open day, running from 9.45am to 3pm, will give families the chance to explore the enhanced nursery, meet the team and discover what Jigsaws has to offer.

The redevelopment has transformed and extended the original structure, increasing the nursery’s capacity from 51 to 68 children.  The new state-of-the-art two-storey building features modernised facilities, creating an improved learning environment that will support the educational needs of youngsters for years to come.

Work began on 14 July with the removal of the original pre-fabricated portable building. The new facility was constructed off site, with the 14 separate pods being craned into position on site during August, with the nursery reopening to children on 14 September. The open day will officially mark the completion of the project, with a short ceremony followed by an opportunity for families to explore the new setting.

During the event, families will have access to the nursery’s four age-specific spaces that have been designed to support learning and development though play and exploration and will get the opportunity to test out some of the creative and play-based activities. Staff will also host a Forest School adventure and natural dye printing session, with opportunities to toast marshmallows around the fire pit. Guests will also be served drinks and refreshments prepared onsite in Jigsaws’ new kitchen.

Helen Smith, Business Manager at Jigsaws Childcare, said: “This redevelopment is a really exciting new chapter for Jigsaws and for the families we support in and around Church Fenton. We wanted to create a setting that builds on everything people value about Jigsaws while giving children and families a modern, welcoming space to learn, play and grow.

“We’re delighted to finally be able to open the doors and invite local families in to see the transformation for themselves. We’re looking forward to celebrating with our community, welcoming families into our new spaces and giving them a taste of the experiences and opportunities we can provide for their children.”

Established in 2007, Jigsaws is an inclusive not-for-profit childcare organisation rooted in the Church Fenton community. It provides full-day nursery care, wraparound before and after-school provision and support for children with Special Educational Needs.
